Short Court Service for Two
Tactical Problem: Knowing where to place the ball.  How to score. Knowing how to use the underhand serve in a game situation.
Skill development: Proper underhand serving technique.  Serving to space.  Placing ball in a designated space on opponents court. Forearm and overhead passing skills.  Control and accuracy.

Teaching Points:

 Tactic:
Serving the ball over the net to a specific target in order to score.

Skill:

  • Hold ball in fingers and palm of non-striking hand.
  • Serving hand is swung back using a straight arm, then brought forward to strike the ball with an upward and forward motion to send the ball over the net.
  • Good stance, opposite foot forward to serving hand.
  • Eyes on ball.
  • Keep striking hand open, hitting ball on heal of hand.
  • Tee the ball on the fingers of the non-striking hand.
  • Keep the tee arm straight, flex at the wrist.
  • Strike the ball with the heal (flat surface) of the striking hand.
  • Remove tee hand just prior to contact.
  • In serving, transfer weight from back to front foot.
  • Follow through with serving hand.
  • Direct the serve by changing position behind the service line.
  • Change direction of serve by changing body position...angle hand and body to send ball to a given area.

Organizational Points:
  • In pairs
  • Serving from behind the three meter line to partner who is within the three meter line on the other side of the net.
  • Play to partner over the net.
  • Will allow more than one hit per side, so each individual player may pass to him/herself up to three times.  IE, receive, bump to self, set ball over net.
  • Score points by causing ball to land on opponents court.

Extension:

  • Move service line back as the server success rate increases.
  • Increase playing area as skill increases.
